Dawn Princess - Friday 22 January, Mystery Island

Morning cuppa on our balcony
Mystery Island today and we started it with tea and coffee on our balcony, not a bad way to start any day really! No plans for today except for swimming and more relaxing. Mystery Island was hit by the cyclone that swept through the region about 12 months ago and we could see from the ship that many trees were gone as was the pontoon that was there last time we visited with the boys.

Mystery Island is on the right
We didn't get to Mystery until around 10am so after breakfast we went for a wander around the ships top decks and checked out The Sanctuary. This is a special area for adults only at the front of the ship - it cost $20pp to use it. Apparently you also get food and drink. We never went in there and there was no one there the couple of times we went passed it. I'm guessing it gets used a lot more during sea days.

The tenders preparing to take us ashore
The tender system for the Dawn Princess was great. It was set up so one tender drops off while one picks up, it certainly seemed to speed up the whole process. On other ships we've been lucky enough to sail on there were often delays with the tendering service, we never experienced any delays while on The Dawn P. We didn't ever go down as soon as the tender service started, which would be the busiest time, but we never heard any complain about any delays. Very well run. Plus all of our tender stops were  relatively short trips no more than 10 minutes, this would certainly help speed things up.Also the weather was very kind to us.

Once off the tender we headed for a nice, relatively quiet, spot along the beach and dived (well walked) into the beautiful water. Lovely temperature. The sand was very sinky so you got a great work out walking along the beach and into the water!

Beautiful Mystery Island and the Dawn Princess (and mum)

We walked around the island which only takes about 20 minutes or so and really noticed how many trees were missing since our last visit. One thing that stood out was that you could see the Mystery Island Airport building from the beach, last time we were here it was well hidden by trees.

A few people got stung by jellyfish, I didn't see any but mum did when we went into the water on the otherside of the island. Needless to say we moved fast to get back onto the beach! We walked through the markets and then back into the water on the less jellyfish side of the island. It was to the right of where the tenders dock so there was a bit of seaweed which made us jump when it touched our legs. Neither of us got stung, thankfully, and loved spending the afternoon on Mystery!

Some fallen trees caused by the 2015 cyclone
Swimming near the tenders - a few more people here

Sailaway was about 5.30pm where we enjoyed a lovely glass of wine on our balcony. Bye Mystery, thanks for another memorable day. You have never disappointed.

Farewell Mystery Island
Another yummy dinner was had in the Florentine Dining room :-)
